Does a basic homeowner's insurance policy cover water line replacement?
When this happened to us a few years ago, our plumber remarked that he had done a number of water line replacements in our neighborhood recently. He attributed it to all of the houses being built around the same time, and a combination of tree roots + aging builder-grade pipes taking their toll. The dangers of using small home insurance companies
You'd expect a Florida insurance agent to keep an eye on the weather. The Sunshine State tends to be pounded by mega-storms that travel up either side of the peninsula or, even worse, cut a swath across the state and pummel Miami. But Jeff Grady, president of the Florida Association of Insurance Agents, is working the phones, trying to figure out which of the state's approximately 70 mini-insurers is going to fail next. "It's a miserable little game we're playing," Grady laments. And a losing battle for Floridians. A Pulitzer Prize-winning series by theSarasota Herald-Tribune claims that at least 38,000 residents are insured by companies which state regulators "knew would fail," while many other policyholders are at risk.
