In a survey by the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance, Selective's auto insurance rates ranked in the more expensive half of the state's insurers. We compared Selective's rates to other national insurers, and found that sample premiums at the national insurers tended to be more affordable. For example, Selective's rates for young and single females were $813 more than Esurance - about 121% costlier. Married senior couples also experienced a wide range: insurance premiums at Selective were more than double rates at Liberty Mutual. As always, it's best to have at least two points of comparison so consumers know what a fair market price is. For a list of cheap auto insurers servicing your area, type your zip code below.
Selective Auto Insurance Policy & Coverage
Selective does not enable quote estimates on their website. To get a quote, consumers will have to go through their local agents.
There is surprisingly very little information on Selective Auto Insurance: both on their website and through their network of local agents. Much of the interaction from car insurance quotes to filing claims on policies will be handled by one of 950 local agents. Phone calls to several local agents, however, did not raise our confidence in Selective. None of the ones we contacted could share anything substantive about the insurer. When pressed for information on special or distinctive features about the company's coverage or discounts, generic information was given.
